At the beginning of the modpack, the player most notably obtains a few key items.

Smeltery and the Transmutation table

This first chapter will also take a look at items players have trouble obtaining at first.

Transmutation Table

  • Item that is incredibly easy to understand for players and shouldn't take you more than 20 seconds to get the hang of.

Legend:

  1. Search Bar

  2. Slot where you convert items to EMC and learn them into the transmutation table. Shift right-click on any item with an EMC value to "sell" it immediately.

  3. Slot for unlearning items. Placing an item inside this slot makes the transmutation system "forget" it.

  4. Place where you can see all your learn items. When placing an item inside the middle slot it will show similiar items already learnt.

  5. Space where you can learn items without burning them, you can use this space as storage as well.

  6. Your total EMC.

  7. Next page of learnt items.

Smeltery

  • The smeltery is a multiblock structure introduced by Tinkers' Construct. It's used for ore doubling in the early game; its main purpose is to provide the player better parts for tools.

  • The smeltery works after you build it like this, then you will need some extra things to be able to withdraw ingots and ore blocks from the smeltery, you can also add another layer if you wish.

How to use the smeltery:

  1. Put ores into the smeltery controller.

  2. Wait until they are molted, and then place either a clay cast or gold cast onto the table and click on the duct (the same works with tool parts; basins can only make full blocks).

  3. Wait until an ingot forms and, with a right click, withdraw it from the form.

Troublesome items for newer players

Lava

  • Lava can be easily obtained in the mining dimension; the easiest way to find it is to locate a big cave and just find a lake underground.

Sand

  • An easy way to obtain a sand block is to use the philosopher's stone on a dirt block.

Ink Sac

  • There are many ways how you can obtain the ink sac:

  1. Buy a passive mob crate and get a squid egg.

  2. Make black wool using black dye and crush it inside an EU2 crusher for a chance to get an ink sac.

  3. Make a water lake and wait for squids to spawn.

  4. Use the philosopher's stone mob transformation feature and any passive mob for a chance to transmutate it into a squid (keybind for animal transformation is R; you need redstone or glowstone in inventory for it).
